The research activity focuses on the study, design, and implementation of electronic and telecommunication systems based on microcontrollers and FPGA devices, with particular emphasis on the integration of hardware, software, and signal processing algorithms.

The main research areas include:

  • Radio and Wireless Communication Networks
Design and analysis of radio communication networks for low-power and short-/medium-range applications, with particular attention to protocols for wireless sensor networks and IoT systems.

  • Internet of Things (IoT) Systems
Development of complete IoT architectures, from sensor nodes to the application layer, including data acquisition, communication, local processing (edge computing), and integration with cloud platforms.

  • Computer Vision on Embedded Systems
Implementation of computer vision algorithms on resource-constrained platforms (microcontrollers, SoC, FPGA), with applications in environmental monitoring, smart home systems, and distributed intelligent systems.

  • Environmental Monitoring through Sensor Networks
Design of distributed monitoring systems for environmental parameters, with a focus on energy efficiency, communication reliability, and data quality.

  • Model-Based Design for Telecommunication Systems
Application of Model-Based Design methodologies for the modeling, simulation, and validation of telecommunication and complex embedded systems, including automatic code generation and functional verification.

  • Smart Systems for Smart City, Smart Home, and Home Automation
Design of integrated intelligent solutions for urban and residential environments, based on sensor networks, communication infrastructures, and programmable embedded systems.
