Visual perception in postural control
The vision provides the necessary information about the surrounding
environment and the presence or absence of a visual stimulus can
influence significantly the posture of a subject. The size of the
visual field is an important factor because the central and
peripheral vision seem to have different roles in the control of
stance. This line of research aims to test the influence of optic
flow stimuli on postural muscles. The aim is to quantify the
beginning of muscle activation through the electromyographic study
and verify the modifications of the center of pressure using the
force platforms, during various optic flow stimulations. The
results can be used to determine the specific strategies used for
postural control.
