Keywords: public finance credit upon pledge charitable agencies Monte di pietà history of credit welfare

My research activity is mostly devoted to the evolution of credit techniques in association with public finance, to the assessment of economic activities of charitable agencies and to the shifting economic strategies of families in premodern Italian cities.Currently research is being conducted in the following areas: 1) From merchant banking to public banking: changing credit networks in urban context (15th-19th centuries). Special attention is devoted to institutional changes caused by credit crunch and insolvency crises. 2) The early stages of consumer credit: credit upon pledge and saving strategies of the lower classes. 3) From communal to state fisc: the changing fiscal relations from the early modern period to the modern age.
