  • Since 2013, personally performs: 30 to 40 liver transplants per year; 50 to 80 liver resections per year; and 60 to 70 kidney transplants (15 from living donors) per year.
  • Also performs general surgery procedures like laparoscopic appendectomy, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, colo-rectal surgery, hernia repair, and gastric resections.

Academic Competencies:

His h-index is 48, according to Google Scholar and he is author or co-authors of more than 220 papers indexed on Pub-Med with a total impact factors of more than 650.

Has had the qualification for Associate Professor since 2013 and for Full Professor since 2017 (expecting a Full Professor appointment with the university in 2018).

The main field of research are liver transplantation and liver resection. Recently developed a machine for organ perfusion and has a national grant for ongoing study of this topic. Is a coordinator of a study on micro-RNA and hepatocellular carcinoma with regional grant.

Participated in the following studies:

  • Clinical Investigator: Immunological, virological and oncological follow-up of the liver recipients; Programma di ricerca Regione-Università (i.e., a collective of universities in the Emilia-Romagna region) 2007-2009.
  • Clinical Investigator: Hepatic preconditioning: molecular mechanisms responsible for the induction of tolerance to ischemia-reperfusion and clinical applications in liver resection and transplantation; PRIN 2004 (i.e., known by the English “Research Projects of Relevant National Interest”).
  • Principal Investigator:Molecular classification of hepatocellular carcinoma to select the more appropriate surgical treatment: liver transplantation or liver resection; Programma di ricerca Regione-Università (i.e., a collective of universities in the Emilia-Romagna region) 2010-2012 - Bando Giovani Ricercatori.
