Master's thesis/internship opportunity at ENEA

Topic: Thermal design and analysis of the shielding and reactivity control systems of a Surface Nuclear Reactor

Where: Bologna

Details: The component experiencing the hottest temperature in the power production area of an SNR is the core. While the majority of the energy is deposited in the fuel itself, a non-negligible amount is also deposited in other core components and its surroundings which must therefore be properly cooled as well in order to ensure their integrity; of specific interest are the reactivity control systems and the shielding which are located in the active region of the core or in its immediate proximity. The thesis work will be focused on setting up the thermal model for the investigated components so to assess their temperature field and design a cooling system able to bring temperatures within the specified limits
