Topic: Improvement of the semi-analytical model for evaluating the fuel-cladding contact pressure in the TEMIDE thermomechanics code

Where: Bologna

Details: Fuel-cladding contact pressure is one of the fundamental parameters used to verify the tightness of a fuel rod throughout its operational life. This pressure is highly dependent on fuel creep. To circumvent the computational difficulties caused by the large fuel creep typical of fast reactor operating conditions, the TEMIDE code currently uses a semi-analytical model to correct the fuel-cladding contact pressure due to creep effects. This semi-analytical model is based on approximate boundary conditions. This thesis therefore aims to derive the semi-analytical solution of the mechanical equations with more representative boundary conditions and implement this model in the TEMIDE code, verifying the actual improvement in the predictive capabilities of the contact pressure.
