Topic: Creation of a module to enable the inclusion of thermo-hydraulic feedback in the ERANOS neutron computing suite

Where: Bologna

Details: Typically, neutronics calculations are performed assuming a uniform distribution of coolant and fuel temperatures throughout the core. However, since reactivity effects depend on these temperatures, and given the distribution of neutron importance throughout the core, this assumption introduces an error compared to the real case, in which these temperatures are non-uniformly distributed throughout the core. The activity is aimed at developing a function within the ERANOS neutronics analysis code that allows to derive an estimate of the temperature from local values of coolant power and flow rate, and to modify the local density (for the coolant only) and temperature (for the coolant and fuel) data so as to allow an iterative calculation to derive a realistic solution for the criticality and power distribution.
