The objective of the research
activities is the study of the industrial applications of
superconductivity (SC), with particular care for the
energy-managing systems. The activity is mainly devoted to the
thermal and electromagnetic modeling and to the methods for the
design, construction, and performance optimization of electrical
devices utilizing superconductors: superconducting magnets,
magnetic bearings and optimal magnetization techniques, magnetic
energy storage systems (SMES), fault current limiters (FCL), cables
for power transmission and efficient use of the electrical energy
produced by renewable sources, high-efficiency induction heaters
and high-gradient magnetic filters for the separation of the
ultra-fine solid particles from liquid wastes.
