Massimiliano Garagnani

Massimiliano (Max) Garagnani is an Associate Professor at the University of Bologna since December 2025. He conducts research in the field of computational cognitive neuroscience, with particular focus on the development of biologically realistic neural models for the study of the brain mechanisms underlying language, attention, memory, and spontaneous decision-making. His research interests include simulating and understanding the emergence of cognitive functions from unsupervised neural architectures, and the validation of neurocomputational simulations via experimental testing. Actively involved in numerous international research projects, he has collaborated with academic institutions and research centres in Europe and the United States. He is the author of a number of articles published in leading international journals and has held editorial and scientific roles within academia, receiving several awards and recognitions over the course of his career.
