Massimiliano Bassetti is deeply engrossed in the field of Latin palaeography, spanning from Late Antiquity to the Late Middle Ages. His research explores the symbolic and anthropological dimensions of writing in documents and books, examining the evolving relationship between writing models and book formats. With a focus on Greco-Gothic-Latin palimpsests and niche areas like marginal writings, glosses, autography, and self-writing among medieval authors, he's also dedicated to enhancing digital cataloguing practices for medieval manuscripts in the Latin alphabet. With approximately 150 publications to his name, he actively contributes to national and international research projects. He collaborates with esteemed European institutions and directs two influential Italian organizations—the “Centro italiano di studi sull’alto medioevo” Foundation and the Centro italiano di studi sul basso medioevo—both pivotal in advancing the study of medieval Europe.
