The research activity focuses on monitoring emerging contaminants present in marine environments and in waters intended for human consumption, including an assessment of the potential physiological responses that these pollutants induce in marine organisms (mussels) and exposed cell cultures.

In detail, the activity includes:

-Chemical analysis through the use of specific and sensitive analytical techniques, such as liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS);

-Biological analysis using experimental models such as human trophoblast cells (HTR-8/SVneo) and breast carcinoma cells (MCF-7) in culture. Ecotoxicological assays and biomarkers on mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis).
