Curriculum vitae

Junior assistant professor at the Department for Life Quality Studies (QUVI) of Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna.

Resident of the European College of Animal Welfare and Behavioural Medicine - Animal Welfare Science, Ethics and Law track.

Research interests are focused on animal welfare, veterinary legislation and the sustainability of livestock farming.

 

Education

September 2018 – present: Alternative Residency Program of the European College of Animal Welfare and Behavioural Medicine - Animal Welfare Science, Ethics and Law (ECAWBM-AWSEL).

March 2020: PhD Degree in Veterinary Sciences (curriculum: Clinical Sciences), with focus on Animal Welfare and Veterinary Legislation at the Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences (DIMEVET) of Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna (supervisor: Prof. Angelo Peli). Thesis: "New advances in estimating the age of dog puppies for medico-legal purposes".

August - December 2018: Visiting period at the University of Pretoria, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Department of Production Animal Studies (supervisor: Prof. Henry Annandale).

March 2016: Single-cycle Master’s degree in Veterinary Medicine at Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna. Thesis: “Caprine Arthritis Encephalitis Virus (CAEV): genetic evolution and tropism” (supervisor Professor Alessandra Scagliarini). Graduated with honours.

July 2010: High School Diploma (Scientific Studies) at “Liceo Scientifico Galileo Galilei”, Modica. Graduated with honours.

 

Academic career

December 2019 - November 2021: Postdoctoral research fellow at the Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences (DIMEVET) of Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna (supervisor: Prof. Angelo Peli).

 

Teaching activities

AY 2022/23: lecturer for the teaching unit "Small ruminants ", of the teaching course "Welfare and cross-compliance in livestock farming" in the Postgraduate School of Animal Health and Livestock Production (University of Bologna). Adjunct professor for the teaching courses "Clinical legal medicine and animal welfare" and "Intra- and extra-EU movement of animals and specimes" in the Professional 2st level master's program "Veterinary Legal and Forensic Medicine" (University of Bologna).

AY 2020/21 - 2021/22: adjunct professor for the teaching unit "Small ruminants ", of the teaching course "Welfare and cross-compliance in livestock farming" in the Postgraduate School of Animal Health and Livestock Production (University of Bologna).

AY 2020/21: adjunct professor for the teaching course "International legislation on large marine vertebrates" in the Professional 1st level master's program "Large Marine Vertebrates Sciences" (University of Bologna).

Training on farm biosecurity and animal welfare assessment at Mekelle University (Ethiopia, 3-7th June 2019), under the VETBOME project.

Since 2017, tutoring of undergraduate veterinary students in the activities of the Professional Practical Training in Transmissible Diseases and Cross-compliance (Veterinary Medicine degree course, University of Bologna), supporting trainees in farm visits and performing biosecurity and welfare assessment of cattle and small ruminants.

Since 2017, teaching in practical training sessions within the “Legal Medicine, Animal Protection and Veterinary Legislation” course (Veterinary Medicine degree course, University of Bologna).

Co-supervisor of 11 graduation theses in Veterinary Medicine.
