Academic discipline: BIO/15 Pharmaceutical Biology

Curriculum vitae

As a recent graduate, she won a research grant for the phytochemical, ethnobotanical and biotechnological study of medicinal plants from the Emilia-Romagna region at the Plant Biology and Pharmaceutical Botany laboratory of the Department of Pharmacy and Biotechnology of the University of Bologna. In 2016, she continued her research activity with the project "Isolation, identification, structure elucidation and cytotoxic activity of alkaloids from Hippeastrum goianum (Ravenna) Meerow" at the Federal University of Espirito Santo in Vitoria (Brazil), Department of Chemistry. Between 2017 and 2021, she obtained her PhD in Pharmaceutical Biology by discussing the PhD Thesis entitled "New approaches to plant-based drug discovery" on selective extractions for specific classes of compounds (e.g: polyphenols, alkaloids), chromatographic separation techniques (HPLC, MPLC, UPLC, CC, CPC), techniques for the structural characterisation of organic compounds (NMR and MS) and the study of biological activities of plant extracts, in particular the antimicrobial activity against different bacterial strains and the inhibition activity of enzymes involved in skin ageing and type II diabetes mellitus pathology. During the final year of her PhD spent at the Université de Reims Champagne-Ardenne (Reims, France), she developed a method for the rapid identification of alkaloids of plants of the Amaryllidaceae family already known in the literature (dereplication) directly on plant extract fractions, avoiding lengthy and costly purification processes. In 2021 she became a Research Fellow at the Department of Sciences for the Quality of Life, University of Bologna, where she conducted research on the determination of the phytochemical profile and quantitative analysis of nutraceutical interest compounds in by-products from the agri-food industry and food plants. Since 11 January 2022 she is Assistant Professor at the Department of Sciences for Quality of Life, University of Bologna.
