Curriculum vitae

Maria Rescigno is Assistant Professor in the academic discipline SPS/08 - Sociology of Culture and Communication Processes at the Department of Sociology and Business Law of Bologna University.

She has a Ph.D. in Sociology (1992, University of Parma).

In 2008 she was elected to represent assistant professors at the Faculty of Political Sciences of Bologna University.


Main teaching activity

From 1994 to 2004 she worked at the Faculty of Sociology of Urbino University, with a teaching module about fashion and social system within the course "Sociologia delle comunicazioni di massa".

Since 2004, she has been teaching at the School of Political Sciences of Bologna University, with particular attention to the impact of mass communication on the behaviors of "weak" social groups, especially the minors and the elderly.

Since 2004, she has been a member of the Department of Sociology "Achille Ardigò" of Bologna University (from 2012, it changed in Department of Sociology and Business Law, as a consequence of the aggregation process occurred in Bologna University).

She holds some seminars for the courses of "Introductory Workshop on Internships", "Sociology of Social Services", "Methods and Techniques of Social Service LM" at the School of Political Sciences of Bologna University.

It also carries out support activity to the organization of internships for students of the 1st cycle degree in Social Work and the 2nd cycle degree in Sociology and Social Work at Bologna University.

Since 2007 she has been a member of the examination board for the courses "Introductory Workshop on Internships", "Sociology of Environment", and "Urban and Rural Sociology".


Main research activity

In 1990 she coordinated a study about the communication between generations for the City of Bologna.

In 1992 she coordinated a study about school dropout in the Salerno and San Mango school districts in Piemonte region.

In 1995 she coordinated a study on the elderly and intergenerational relationships in Emilia-Romagna, promoted by the regional government of Emilia-Romagna.

In the academic year 2001-2002, she promoted a study about fashion in complex society, between globalization and localism.

Since 2007, she has participated to research and cultural activity of Ces.Co.Com. (Centro Alti Studi sui Comportamenti di Consumo e della Comunicazione) and Ce.P.Ci.T. (Centro Studi sui Problemi della Città e del Territorio) at Bologna University.

She participated as a senior researcher in the 2008/2010 PRIN project about tourism, mobility, accessibility and social equity (a comparative study in the metropolitan areas of Milan, Turin and Bologna).
