  • CURRENT POSITION

November 2023 - present: PhD student in the Doctoral Program "Nanoscience for Medicine and the Environment" at the University of Bologna. My PhD project focuses on the in vitro study of the effects of 5G radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF) exposure on human cortical neurons obtained by differentiation from induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSCs), on human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells and on human HaCaT keratinocytes. This project involves the application of electrophysiological (patch-clamp and Multielectrode Array system) and genomic (study of DNA methylation) techniques.

  • ACADEMIC CAREER

February 2023 - October 2023: Research fellow within the European GOLIAT project (5G expOsure, causaL effects, and rIsk perception through citizen engAgemenT), at the Biophysics Laboratory of the Applied Physics and Complex Systems Section (Department of Physics and Astronomy "Augusto Righi"), University of Bologna. The project aims to monitor radiofrequency electromagnetic fields exposure, particularly from 5G, provide novel insights into its potential causal health effects, and understand how exposures and risks are perceived and best communicated using citizen engagement. The research carried out during this period was focused on investigating the effects of exposure to 5G radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF) on the bioelectrical activity of human neurons in vitro, using the patch-clamp technique learned during my Master's thesis.

  • EDUCATION AND TRAINING

December 2022: Master's Degree in Medical Biotechnology, specialising in molecular and regenerative medicine, from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE).

The internship was carried out within the Spinal Cord Electrophysiology Laboratory (UNIMORE) and led to the development of a Master's thesis entitled "Mechanisms of communication between astrocytes and motor neurons in the spinal cord of mice".

Grade 110/110 with honours and commendation.

July 2019: Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE).

The internship was carried out at the Centre for Regenerative Medicine (Modena, UNIMORE) and led to the development of a thesis entitled "Study of gene expression profiles in haematopoietic progenitors for the identification of a prognostic molecular signature in patients with myelofibrosis, through the analysis of gene expression profiles in patients with primary and secondary myelofibrosis".

Grade 110/110 with honours

June 2015: Diploma in Chemistry, from the "Istituto Tecnico Industriale Fermo Corni" secondary school in Modena.

Grade 100/100
