Marco Santoro

Professor of Sociology at the University of Bologna. My research interests cut across the human and the social sciences, and are generally focused on the cultural aspects of social and political institutions, and on the institutional bases of symbolic creation and reception, usually with an historical approach. Presently I'm doing research on the political and aesthetic dimension of mafias, on the international circulation of the ideas of Antonio Gramsci, on Bourdieu's sociology of artistic fields, on suicide and music cultures, and on the sociology of cinema. I'm a founding member of the journals "Studi Culturali" (2004) and "Sociologica. Italian Journal of Sociology online", of which I have been an editor since its foundation in 2007 till 2018. I also have been serving on the boards of  "Poetics" (till 2015), "Cultural Sociology" (till 2021), "American Journal of Cultural Sociology", "Biens symboliques / Symbolic Goods". I co-edit the book series "Socio-historical Studies in the Social and Human Sciences" (Palgrave), and I am a corresponding member of the Centre de sociologie européenne, EHESS,Paris.
