My research interests are generally focused on the cultural aspects of social and political institutions, and on the organizational bases of symbolic creation and reception, with an historical approach. Presently I'm doing research on the political and aesthetic dimension of mafias, on the international circulation of the ideas of Antonio Gramsci and Pierre Bourdieu, n the history and sociology of the human and social sciences, on popular music cultures, and on the sociology of cinema. I'm a founding member of the journals "Studi Culturali" (2004) and "Sociologica. Italian Journal of Sociology online", of which I have been an editor since its foundation in 2007 till 2018. I also serve in the boards of journals as "Cultural Sociology", "American Journal of Cultural Sociology", "Biens symboliques / Symbolic Goods". I coedit the book series "Socio-historical Studies in the Social and Human Sciences" (Palgrave). I'm a corresponding member of the Centre de sociologie européenne, Paris.
