Short Bio

At the University of Bologna since 1999, my research interests trespass disciplinary borders inside the human and social sciences, and are generally focused on the cultural aspects of social and political institutions, and on the organizational bases of symbolic creation and reception, usually with an historical approach. Presently I'm doing research on the political and aesthetic dimension of mafias, on the international circulation of the ideas of Antonio Gramsci and Pierre Bourdieu, on the history and sociology of the human and social sciences, on popular music cultures, and on the sociology of cinema. I'm a founding member of the journals "Studi Culturali" (2004) and "Sociologica. Italian Journal of Sociology online", of which I have been an editor since its foundation in 2007 till 2018. I also serve in the boards of journals as "Cultural Sociology" (till 2021), "American Journal of Cultural Sociology", "Biens symboliques / Symbolic Goods". I coedit the book series "Socio-historical Studies in the Social and Human Sciences" (Palgrave). I'm a corresponding member of the Centre de sociologie européenne, EHESS,Paris.
