2008 -  Ph.D. in "Sport Science" - the University of Bologna.

Academic career

After  few years as post-doc ( 2008 -2012) and Adjunct professor (Faculty of Sport Sciences and Faculty of Pharmacy), in 2012 he became Researcher (RTDa) in Biochemistry (SSD BIO / 10), at the School of Pharmacy, Biotechnology and Sport Science of the University of Bologna, Department forLife Quality Studies(QUVI).

In 2018 he became Researcher (RTDb) in Biochemistry (SSD BIO / 10), at the School of Pharmacy, Biotechnology and Sport Science of the University of Bologna, Department forLife Quality Studies(QUVI).

In may 2021 he became Associate Professor in Biochemistry (SSD BIO / 10), at the Department for Life Quality Studies (QUVI).

Teaching activity

Since 2011 he has been teaching for for the School of Pharmacy Biotechnology and Motor Sciences.

He also teaches in both University Masters (Masters in "Nutrition and Health Education" and Masters in "Nutraceuticals, Phytotherapists and Food Supplements"), and Private Masters (SANIS).

He is currently Professor of Human Nutrition and Applied Biochemistry for the Courses of the School of Pharmacy Biotechnology and Sport Sciences of the University of Bologna - Campus of Rimini.

Scientific Activity

He has participated in national research projects (PRIN-2005, PRIN-2007, FIRB-2011) and European (RISTOMED-FP7, CZ.1.07 / 2.4.00 / 17.0039, DIVERSIFOOD-H2020, FOODStars).

In 2012 he coordinated the research project "Functional bread for the prevention of chronic-degenerative diseases: from the characterization of bioactive compounds to the evaluation of in vivo efficacy", winner of the sixth Montana prize for food research.

In 2013 he coordinated the European Project LLP INTENSIVE PROGRAM "SocialSport".

Since 2014, in Rimini, he has participated as scientific coordinator to the project "School, Health and Wellness", both educational and research project, which aims to educate young people aged 11-13 years to the living lifestyles and to monitor their habits in the motor and food fields.

He is author of papers published on international journals, book chapters and communications at international and national conferences, also as invited speaker.

The main research interests concern the fields of cellular biochemistry and biochemistry of nutrition also applied to phusical activity. In particular, he collaborated in the definition of new strategies for nutritional intervention in the reduction of risk factors of diseases related to diet, such as cardiovascular diseases, and in the protection of oxidative damage following exercise. The research is also aimed at enhancing nutraceuticals and functional foods by demonstrating their biomodulatory value and identifying nutritional strategies aimed at increasing the intake of nutraceutical components in the prevention of chronic-degenerative diseases.

In 2006 at the Dept. of Pathology, Drexel University-Philadelphia, USA in the laboratory of Prof C. Sell participated in the project: "The contrasting effects of IGF-1 during aging: a new experimental model to resolve contradictions" .

Institutional activities

Since 2014 he has participated to the Student orientation programme as Delegate of the Course of Study in Pharmacy and the Courses of Study in Sport Sciences - Rimini
