Dr. Luna Girolamini holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences (L-13) and a Master’s degree in Biology of Health (LM-6). She obtained her PhD in Earth, Life and Environmental Sciences (STVA). Since February 2023, she has been working as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bologna, Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences (BiGeA), and carries out her research activity within the Environmental Microbiology and Molecular Biology Laboratory (MAbLab).
Her scientific activity focuses on the study of waterborne pathogens, with particular interest in the environmental surveillance of Legionella spp. and risk assessment in water systems and human-impacted environments.
She is involved in national and international research projects focused on the prevention and control of biological risk in water networks, devices, and high-risk engineered systems (e.g., water distribution systems, cooling towers, dental units), following an approach strongly oriented towards environmental prevention.
