Curriculum vitae

Luca Sardi attained his degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1989 (ISCED 5) and got his qualification as "Dottore di ricerca" (ISCED 6) in 1995. From 1996-2005 he worked as a Permanent Researcher (SSD/AGR 19 - Animal Production) at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Bologna.

Since 2005 he is Associate Professor of Animal Production at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Bologna.

Since the academic year 2009-2010 he has been elected President of the Degree Course in Safety and Quality of Animal Productions of the University of Bologna.

Luca Sardi held the responsibility for " 60% projects" (2000-2005)  and for a local unit of a " 40% project" (2003); formerly he took part in many research projects granted by MIUR and MIPAF.

From 2002 to 2008 Luca Sardi has been a member of the Agronomic Sciences Committee of the University of Bologna.

He is author of more than 80 original papers.

The main lines of research are: the relationships between animal rearing, animal feeding, animal welfare and the quality of animal-derived products; the quality of Parma Ham; organic farming; the reduction of environmental impact of intensive animal production through the diet; the use of non-conventional vegetable protein sources in heavy pigs feeding; the assessment of swine welfare level based on the study of behavioural patterns, immune response, production parameters; the assessment of cattle welfare by means of score systems; digestibility assessment of nutrients using metabolism crates for swine; the effects of feed additives on pig and dairy cattle production.

Presently Luca Sardi is professor of "Swine Production" , "Poultry and Rabbit Production" and "Environmental impact of animal farming" and of "Intensive Animal Production" at the Degree Course in Safety and Quality of Animal Productions of the University of Bologna.
