University of Bologna, Italy, in 2000 and 2004 respectively.

Teaching experience
He is / has been lecturer in: Traffic Engineering, Transport Planning, Transport System Design; Sustainable and Integrated Urban Transit Solutions (Master Course in Civil Engineering, School of Engineering and Architecture, University of Bologna, Italy) and in Traffic Engineering, Transport Technique and Economics (First cycle Degree in Civil Engineering, School of Engineering and Architecture, University of Bologna, Italy).
He has been Advisor of over 90 students for their final Thesis (BA and MA in Civil Engineering).
Research Activities
His main research areas include:
- Air transportation: airport planning; airport and air transport sustainability; airport noise impact modeling and evaluation; airport ground access networks and services; technology for passenger and aircraft processing.
- Transportation demand estimation: direct estimation of transport demand, trip chain analysis, questionnaire studies.
- Transport network vulnerability and resilience: airport airside vulnerability and resilience; public transport networks vulnerability and resilience.
- Traffic flow simulation and modelling: micro-simulation of hybrid traffic stream, composed by connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) and legacy human driven vehicles (HDVs).
- Transport sustainability: sustainable urban transport; MaaS development and implementation; Connected and Autonomous Vehicles users' acceptance.
- Healthcare logistics: development of air transport networks and services for organs, medical teams and patients.
He has been member of many research groups in transportation
project financed from government and institution, as project partner, stakeholder or external advisor/expert:

Author of more than 60 articles and papers published in national
and international journals, books and conference proceedings, he is
member of Italian Society of Transportation Lecturers (SIDT) since
2001 and of Euro Working Group on Transportation (EWGT) since
2006.
He has been responsible for the teaching module "Mobility Trends and Analysis of passengers and freight transport" in the Master Sustainable ad Integrated Mobility in Urban Regions, University of Bologna, for the academic year 2019-2020.
He has been a member of the Teaching Board of the PhD in "Geomatics and Transport Engineering", at the University of Bologna (from 2006 to 2012), and of the Teaching Board of the PhD in "Luoghi e tempi della città e del territorio", at the University of Brescia. He has been Supervisor of three PhD students.

Other Activities
He was member of the board of directors of Bologna Airport from July 2011 to April 2019.
He is member of the council board of the Italian National
Transplant Center and is currently developing the national
guidelines for air transportation of transplantation organs and
surgeons.
He received the "Best Teacher Award" prize organized by the Department DICAM and assigned by the students in the academic year 2015-2016
