Teaching

Dissertation topics suggested by the teacher.

Evaluation of the mechanical competence of vertebrae affected by metastases

Several topics available for experimental projects focusing on the morphological and biomechanical characterisation of healthy and pathological vertebrae.

Candidates: undergraduates in biomedical engineering, master students in biomedical engineering, master students in mechanical engineering

Development and validation of an osseointegrated prosthesis for transfemoral amputees

This is a collaborative project with INAIL and Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute aiming to develop an innovative prosthesis, directly attached to the host bone, for patients who suffered an amputation of the lower limb. Several topics are available, focusing on the development of the device, and on its biomechanical and functional assessment.

Candidates: undergraduates in biomedical engineering, master students in biomedical engineering, master students in mechanical engineering

Design of a biomechanically optimized scaffold for mandibular reconstruction

In this research project, in collaboration with the Julius Wolff Institute (Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin), the candidates will design a scaffold for mandibular reconstruction and relative fixation system. Using computational models (e.g, finite element modeling), they will have to test whether the scaffold can biomechanically support the bone regeneration process in such a complex clinical scenario. The project includes close collaboration with clinical partners from the Oro-Maxillofacial Surgery Department of the Charité.

Candidates: master students in biomedical engineering, master students in mechanical engineering
