Born in Bologna in 1973, she obtained a Master’s Degree (Laurea) cum laude in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology from the University of Bologna, defending an experimental thesis entitled “Ambedonium Analogues as Non-Competitive Inhibitors of Acetylcholinesterase” under the supervision of Prof. C. Melchiorre.
In 1999, she qualified to practice as a Pharmacist.
After winning a competitive examination for admission to the PhD Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences (14th cycle), she carried out her doctoral research in the laboratory of Prof. P. Valenti within the Alzheimer Project of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Bologna. In 2002, she was awarded the title of Doctor of Philosophy, defending the thesis “Design, Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of Acetylcholinesterase Inhibitors as Potential Drugs for the Treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease”.
In 2000, she carried out a research period at the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, Royal Danish School of Pharmacy in Copenhagen, under the supervision of Prof. Jerzy Jaroszewski, focusing on the synthesis of philantotoxin 433 analogues and on the study of acidity constants using NMR techniques.
In 2002, she was awarded the Profutura Degree and Research Prize. Between 2002 and 2006, she conducted research activities at the University of Bologna through research fellowships and grants, focusing on the design and synthesis of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors as potential drugs for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.
Since 2006, she has been a Researcher at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Bologna (Scientific Disciplinary Sector CHIM/08). Throughout her scientific career, she has developed collaborations with national and international research groups in the field of drug discovery for neurodegenerative and neglected diseases. In the academic years 2007/2008 and 2008/2009, she was responsible for the Quantitative Analysis module within the course Analysis of Medicinal Products I for the Degree Program in Pharmacy in Rimini.
Starting from 2011, she pursued a professional pathway in research management and administrative coordination of scientific projects. At the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) in Tarragona, she served as Administrative Group Coordinator (2011–2017), taking care of financial management and reporting of European (ERC, ITN), national and regional projects, as well as providing administrative support to research groups.
Subsequently, at the same institute, she worked as Talent Acquisition Officer (2017–2018), managing international recruitment processes for Master’s, PhD and Postdoctoral programs, coordinating calls, acting as secretary of the academic selection committee, and contributing to employer branding activities.
In 2019, she worked at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Genoa as Training and Development Specialist, focusing on training needs analysis of scientific staff and on the organization of training programs for researchers and PhD students.
In 2022, she gained experience in the private sector as a Sales Account Manager at Desten Srl, where she was responsible for the promotion and sale of photovoltaic solutions to private and corporate clients.
Since 2023, she has been Project Manager of the European project TClock4AD (MSCA Doctoral Network Joint Doctorate) at the Department of Pharmacy and Biotechnology, University of Bologna. She coordinates an international consortium of 13 academic and industrial partners across Europe, the United Kingdom and Israel, involving 17 doctoral candidates. Her responsibilities include operational coordination of the project, monitoring of scientific, training and mobility activities, communication with the European Commission, management of reports, and organization of international events, summer schools, and dissemination and impact activities.
