Leonardo Testi graduated at the University of Florence, where he obtained the Laurea in Fisica and Dottorato di Ricerca in Astronomia, studying the formation processes of high mass stars. After a period at the California Institute of Technology, he moved to the Osservatorio Astrofisico di Arcetri. He was then staff member of the European Southern Observatory, working for the ALMA Observatory. He is currently Full Professor at the DIFA, University of Bologna. He studies the formation of stars and planets, using the leading astronomical observatories, contributing to their development and innovation.
