The main research areas concern:

- predictors of course and outcome of somatic diseases, with particular attention to the role of anxiety and depressive comorbidity, lifestyles, psychological well-being, illness behavior, perceived psycho-social support and coping strategies;

- the integration of dimensional and categorical instruments for the assessment of the psychological factors affecting medical conditions (questionnaires, clinical interviews);

- the Diagnostic Criteria for Psychosomatic Research (DCPR) (alexithymia, type A behavior, irritable mood, demoralization, health anxiety, disease phobia, thanatophobia, illness denial, persistent somatization, functional somatic symptoms secondary to a mental disorder, conversion symptoms, anniversary reaction);

- illness behavior and manifestations of abnormal illness behavior (hypochondriacal spectrum, somatization, illness denial, factitious disorders).
