The WenDAng Project aims to create the first open-access digital archive dedicated to the emerging forms of calligraphy in contemporary China. For the first time, a digital archive will serve as a tool to study this complex artistic phenomenon and its broader cultural and societal implications. The WenDAng archive will integrate all artworks, texts, and research findings from the WRITE ERC project, fostering dialogue in an open-access web environment.

Rooted in the core principles of Digital Humanities, the project will leverage computational tools to analyze research data—including artworks, texts, and supplementary materials—while maintaining a critical approach to cultural objects. This methodology will not only generate new perspectives on these artistic forms but also redefine how knowledge is produced through their study.

By ensuring data interoperability and seamless accessibility, the WenDAng archive will provide a dynamic platform for a broad audience. It will enable simultaneous queries and integrated analysis of the artistic, linguistic, and socio-political-economic dimensions of contemporary Chinese calligraphy, representing a groundbreaking resource for researchers and the public alike.
