Jacopo Nanni

Junior assistant professor (fixed-term)

Department of Electrical, Electronic, and Information Engineering "Guglielmo Marconi"

Academic discipline: ING-INF/02 Electromagnetic Fields

Curriculum vitae

Jacopo Nanni is Junior assistant professor at the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Information Engineering "Guglielmo Marconi" of the University of Bologna since July 2021. The research activity carried out is mainly dedicated to the study and design of optical systems for telecommunication infrastructures, radio astronomy systems and sensors.

Education

2012 - Bachelor's Degree in Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering at the University of Bologna.

2014 - Master's Degree in Telecommunications Engineering at the University of Bologna.

2018 - Double PhD degree in "Electronic, Telecommunications and Information Technologies (ETIT)" and in "Electronique, Optronique et Systémes", at the University of Bologna and Université Paris-Est (Noisy-le-Grand , France) with the rating "Excellent with honors".

Teaching activity

From 2015 to 2020 he was teaching tutor for the following courses:

- Optical Fiber Systems
- Optical Technologies for Electrical Engineering
- Sistemi e Circuiti Ottici e a Radiofrequenza

He currently teaches Module 2 of the "Optical Fiber Systems" and "Optical Technologies for Electrical Engineering" courses.

Scientific activity

Jacopo Nanni is author and co-author of more than 30 scientific publications in international journals and conference proceedings in the field of wireless and wired optical technologies for communication and sensors in the field of infrastructure for indoor communication (4G, 5G, etc. .), wireless communication between chips, and reception systems for radio astronomy.

In the field of indoor communication, since several years he collaborates with the French institute ESIEE, ESYCOM in Paris for the design of low cost and consumption Radio-over-Fiber systems based on vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL), G.652 fiber and SiGe Phototransistor for indoor diffusion of 4G / 5G signals. The collaboration also involves the spin-off ICON Photonics for the construction of low-cost laser-fiber and fiber-photodiode passive coupling structures.

He currently collaborates with the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF) and Radio Astronomy (IRA) in the SKA (Square Kilometer Array) project and in particular in the design of the receiving chain of the part of the system operating at low frequency (SKA-Low).

In 2019 he participated in the WiNOT (Wireless Networks through on-chip Optical Technology) project for the realization of a measuring setup for the characterization of wireless communication devices between chips made in dielectric and plasmon technology.

Awards

2022 - Premio per Giovani Ricercatori "Gianni Tofani" I Edizione, conferito dall'Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF), Osservatorio di Arcetri.

2022 - "Best Poster Award" in the topic "Emerging Topics" all' Italian Conference on Optics and Photonics (ICOP) 2022.

2021 - "Young Scientist Award" at the URSI-GAAS 2021 conference.
