Short Bio

I am Associate Professor of Medieval Latin. I worked at the Universities of Münster, Nancy, Louvain-la-Neuve, Orléans, held the «Chaire Mixte d’Excellence CNRS» in History of Science, and am fellow of the «Institut de Recherche et d’Histoire des Textes» (CNRS). I work on Medieval medicine and pharmacology, and encyclopedias. I work on the critical edition of the Circa instans, a history of Medieval pharmacology, and an inventory of medical manuscripts. I published the critical editions of the Tractatus de herbis and of parts of the De proprietatibus rerum (cf. CV), and participate in international research projects, such as «PRIN 2020: The Latin Middle Ages. A comprehensive bibliographic repertory of writers, texts and manuscripts»; «PRIN 2022: Books of Science. Vernacular Mathematics and Medicine Books in Fourteenth Century Italy», and the ERC Project «UseFool. Knowledge and Manipulation of Nature between Usefulness and Deception in the Arabo-Islamic Tradition (9th – 15th century)».

Office hours

Prof. Ventura's office is the room nr. 42, in Via Zamboni 32. In order to devote to each student enough time, and to deal with his/her question in an adequate way, Prof. Ventura does not have a fix schedule for appointments, but fix special meetings with each student who wishes to put questions and receive appropriate answers. Students who wish to request an appointment are kindly requested to contact Prof. Ventura via mail (iolanda.ventura@unibo.it).

The same circumstances apply in case of online meetings. It suffices to fi an appointment with Prof. Ventura, who will take care to reserve the appropriate time to discuss the questions put by the student.
