Curriculum vitae

Iñaki Alfaro Vergarachea studied at the University of the Basque Country, where he graduated in History (1999) and Art History (2004).

Academic Career and Publications

Since 2012, he has been teaching Basque Language and Culture as a lecturer in undergraduate degree programmes at LILEC, Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna, and at the Department of Linguistics and Comparative Cultural Studies at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.

Research and Academic Activities

He has published with the Province of Álava, Eusko Ikaskuntza (Society for Basque Studies), and in the journals Uztaro, published by Udako Euskal Unibertsitatea, Tintas, published by the University of Milan, and Confluenze, published by the University of Bologna. In 2024, he published the Italian translation of Leire Bilbao’s poetry collection Acque di casa with Edizioni Ensemble.

Since 2012, thanks to an agreement between the University and Etxepare Euskal Institutua, the institute for the promotion of the Basque language and culture abroad, he has been part of the network of Basque language lecturers abroad. In this capacity, he regularly participates in academic meetings and exchange projects.
