Teaching

Dissertation topics suggested by the teacher.

Students wishing to write their thesis on gender studies, applied gender studies, or youth studies are kindly asked to send me an email with the following information:

  • topic of thesis (a short abstract is required);
  • session in which they wish to graduate.
  • level of knowledge of the English language (this information is needed for providing bibliographical suggestions).

I am particularly interested in thesis focussing on the following topics:

Gender Studies

  • activism and mobilisations around issues of gender and sexuality (i.e. feminism, LGBTQ activism, mobilisations and counter-mobilisations on planned parenthood and reproductive rights, etc...)
  • traditional and emerging femininities and masculinities;
  • gender relationships within subcultures, political communities and cultural scenes, with particular reference to women's participation in male-dominated social environments;
  • contemporary transformations of intimacy, sexuality and love.

Youth Studies

  • political participation and youth activism, especially in reference to the non-institutional sphere;
  • new models and ideas of adulthood;
  • subcultural practices and young people's sociability;
  • representations of youth and moral panic.

NB: Consider also the following notes:

  • Each chapter must be sent separately, in its complete form (with bibliography). I do not review incomplete chapters (i.e. single paragraphs);
  • If students disappear for a longer than 4 months (e.g., between the first meeting and the delivery of the first chapter), I will assume they are no more interested in writing their thesis with me.
  • The files must be sent in the following formats: .doc; .docx; .pages or .odt. Please do not send PDF files;
  • The files must be named according to the following procedure: surname_numer of the chapter.doc (i.e., Rossi_capitolo 1.doc);
  • Each chapter is reviewed in approximately 10 days.
