Giulia Sacchetti is a first-year PhD student of Biomedical and Neuromotor Sciences at the University of Bologna, Italy. She graduated in Biotechnology in 2019 and afterwards she obtained a Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology in March 2022 at the University of Bologna. After graduation, she got a Telethon-funded scholarship to study Myoclonus Epilepsy with Ragged Red Fibers (MERRF) disease, a rare genetic disease caused by a mutation in a mitochondrial gene. She is continuing to study MERRF within the Neurogenetic program of IRCCS Istituto delle Scienze Neurologiche di Bologna. She acquired particular experience in induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSCs) and organoid cell culture, and she perfected techniques such as real-time and digital droplet PCR, electroporation, and confocal microscopy. She attended and presented her work at scientific conventions including Euromit 2023 and Telethon XXI and XXII Scientific Conventions.
