Full Professor of Institutions of Roman Law (A-C) and History of Roman Law at the School of Law of the University of Bologna, and of the course of Institutions of Roman Law at the Faculty of Civil Law of the Institutum Utriusque Iuris of the Pontifical Lateran University. He is a member of the Board of lecturers of the PhD in Legal Science at the University of Bologna. He is the President of the National Conference of the Heads of the Departments of Law and Juridical Sciences. The research activity is aimed at the detailed study of the history of the roman jurisprudence, of the late-empire and justinianean law and at the foundations of European Law. In the Scriptores iuris Romani project (ERC, Advanced Grant 2014), P.I. Aldo Schiavone, he coordinates the research group on the works and the thought of Paulus.
