Giovanni Barbara

Professor Giovanni Barbara, MD, qualified in Internal Medicine and in Gastroenterology. He was trained partly in London, UK and completed a three years post-doctoral research fellowship at McMaster University in Canada. Professor Barbara’s main research interest relate to basic and clinical aspects of functional and organic gastrointestinal disorders, neurogastroenterology, microbiota and inflammatory bowel disease. He collaborates internationally with prestigious Universities and has authored numerous indexed peer-reviewed articles and reviews on these topics. Professor Barbara has received national and international awards including the prestigious Master Award in Gastroenterology from the American Gastroenterological Association. He is Member of the Board of Directors of the Rome Foundation, Past-President of the European Society of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (ESNM), currently Chair of the Gut Microbiota for Health section of ESNM.
