Associate Professor of Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Bologna, Department of Biomedical and Neuromotor Sciences. Maxillofacial Surgeon in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Unit at the IRCCS Policlinico di S. Orsola in Bologna.
He carries out his research activity in the field of Maxillofacial Surgery, with particular interest in skeletal pathologies of the face (oncological, reconstructive, malformative and traumatological) and the application of innovative technologies to the therapeutic process. More specifically, he is interested in computer-assisted (digital) diagnosis and planning of surgical treatment, 3D-printing to support surgery, digital biomodels of normal and pathological facial anatomy, and surgical navigation. As a highly innovative area of research, he is dedicated to the development of augmented reality both as an evolution of navigation for the head-neck district in support of surgery and as a tool for advanced medical education. More recently, he studies the applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning to the diagnostic-therapeutic process of facial pathologies.
