9Giorgio Orlandi graduated cum laude at the University of Padua in
1964.
He is professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of Bologna
since the Academic Year 1980/81. Previously he was Research Officer
at the Laboratory of Photochemistry and High Energy Radiations of
the National Research Council of Italy.
He spent one year at the National Research Council of Canada,
Ottawa, Chemistry Division, Physical Chemistry section, and almost
one year at the Max Planck Institut fuer Physikalische Chemie,
Abteilung Spektroskopie, Goettingen, with a von Humboldt Stiftung
fellowship.
His research activity concerned mainly the theoretical analysis of
molecular electronic spectra and of radiationless processes;
spectroscopic and photophysical properties of polyenes and
derivatives of biological interest (retynal and Schiff's bases);
cis-trans photoisomerization in stilbene, azobenzene and related
compounds; structural and spectroscopic properties of fullerenes;
charge and energy transfer in DNA and aromatic solids.
He is the author of over 195 scientific articles published on
international journals. He has presented invited lectures or was
organizer or member of the Scientific Committee in several Italian
and International Conferences.
As for professional experience, G. Orlandi has been Head of the
Committee of Chemistry degree, Director of the Chemistry
Department, and Member the Senate of the University of Bologna as
representative of Science Departments.
