1. Study of synaptic transmission, synaptic plasticity and memory formation
In collaboration with other research groups we study synaptic plasticity and memory formation in rats, mice and mouse models (transgenic mice) of pathologies of the nervous system characterized by cognitive deficits, using electrophysiological, immunohistochemical, morphological and behavioral techniques. We also evaluate the effect of molecules potentially able to counteract the functional alterations found in mouse models of these pathologies.
2. Study of the effect of electromagnetic fields on neuronal ion currents and synaptic transmission and plasticity
By means of electrophysiological techniques, we study the effect of electromagnetic fields on: a) ion currents in cultured neurons; b) synaptic transmission and plasticity (LTP and LTD) in rat cerebral cortex slices.
