Gian Marco Caletti is an adjunct professor at the University of Bologna, where he obtained his PhD degree in Legal Sciences in 2018 (XXX cycle, curriculum in criminal law), discussing his thesis "The degree of culpable negligence. A comparative investigation with Anglo-Saxon systems'.
From 2019 to 2022 he was a research fellow at the Free University of Bozen/Bolzano, working on the interdisciplinary research project CREEP: 'Trust me: it's only for me! Criminalising Revenge Porn?
Over the years, he has oriented his research towards comparisons with Anglo-American legal systems (he is the author of the entry 'Recklessness' in the Italian Encyclopaedia of Law), doing research periods at the Universities of Cambridge (UK, 2016), New York (USA, 2019) and Durham (UK, 2023).
He is the author of numerous publications, also in English, mainly on the topics of criminal culpability and sexual offences, and also of the first Italian book on consent in sexual assault (Dalla violenza al consenso nei delitti sessuali. Profili storici, comparati e di diritto vivente, Bologna, BUP, 2023).
One of the first scholars to deal with abuse through the dissemination of online images, he has repeatedly advised national institutions, including at parliamentary hearings on the introduction of the new offence under Article 612-ter of the Criminal Code ('illegal dissemination of sexually explicit images'). On the same subject, he also edited a collection of writings from all over the world for Oxford University Press to be published in February 2024.
He has given many lectures at conferences and seminars, including in several foreign universities (Vigo, Leipzig, Oxford, Durham).
In June 2023, he was declared eligible by the National Commission to hold the position of Associate Professor.
He is on the editorial board of several scientific journals, including Indice Penale. He practises as a lawyer in Bologna.
