Research

The research activity has been conducted so far in the field of civil engineering that is related to the application of techniques for the dynamic identification of existing structures and infrastructures. The main application context that has been considered is related to the execution of dynamic surveys under ambient vibrations on these structures. These surveys are meant as useful tools for the experimental characterization of the structures and for a subsequent comparison with the calculation models to be used for example in the procedures of vulnerability assessment or in the design of structural interventions. Attention has also been placed on the use of these techniques for the experimental evaluation of the condition of these structures following events that can induce changes in the structural behavior or potential damage, for example seismic events of considerable intensity. In particular, the following research topics were mainly considered:

1) definition of identification procedures based on the estimation of the modal flexibility;

2) definition of identification procedures based on multivariate auto-regressive models;

3) study, comparison and application of modal identification techniques on civil structures and infrastructures.
