Academic discipline: IINF-02/A Electromagnetic Fields

Curriculum vitae

Born in Bologna in 1973, he received the telecommunication engineering degree in March 1999 from the University of Bologna. In April 1999 he got the “Guglielmo Marconi young scientist prize”, on the occasion of the “XXV Marconi International Fellowship Award”. In July 2003 he got the Ph.D. degree in Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Bologna.

Since July 2003 to July 2006 he held a post-doctoral position at the Department of Electronics, Computer Sciences and Systems of the University of Bologna.

In the period October 2006 – November 2010 he joined the Marconi Wireless Consortium, where he carried out research and development activities in the area of radio systems and wireless communications and in the context of projects carried out in favour of companies like General Electrics Transportation Systems, Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, Wind Telecomunicazioni and Ansaldo STS. In January 2012 he joined the Center for Industrial Research on Information and Communication Technologies (CIRI ICT) at the University of Bologna. He is currently Associate professor at DEI (Department of Electrical, Electronic and Information Engineering “G. Marconi”) at the University of Bologna.

He participated in the European Cooperation Actions COST 273, COST 2100, COST IC1004, COST CA15104 IRACON, and in the European Networks of Excellence FP6-NEWCOM and FP7-NEWCOM++. At the national level, he took part in the projects “PRIN 2008 – MULTI-TAG” and "PRIN 2015 - WiNOT".

He’s been appointed Associate/Guest Editor of the online Journal IEEE Access and serves as reviewer for a number of IEEE Transactions journals.

He has been lecturer at the European School of Antennas (ESoA) Course “Large Scale Radio Propagation” held in Braunschweig (GE) in September 2015, and co-organizer of the ESoA Course “Short range radio propagation: theory, models and future applications”, held in Cesena (IT) in September 2016.

In the framework of the European Conference on Antennas and Propagation, Franco Fuschini has been in charge of the organization of convened sessions on “Ray Tracing deterministic modelling for future wireless systems” (2014), “Millimeter-wave propagation measurements and models for 5G systems and applications” (2016) and "Antennas and Propagation Modeling for inter- and intra-chip wireless communications" (2018).

His main research interests have always been in the area of radio systems design and radio propagation channel theoretical modelling and experimental investigation. Franco Fuschini is author or co-author of nearly 50 journal papers on radio propagation and wireless system design.
