Francesco Spampinato is a full professor of Contemporary Art History, Director of the Master’s Degree Program in Visual Arts, and Director of the Summer School in Climate Change at the Department of the Arts, University of Bologna. His research focuses on visual studies and contemporary artistic practices in relation to media, technology, and sustainability.
His most recent publications include Art vs. TV: A Brief History of Contemporary Artists’ Responses to Television (Bloomsbury Academic, 2022), The Pandemic Visual Regime: Visuality and Performativity in the COVID-19 Crisis (Punctum Books, 2023), Skank Bloc Bologna: Alternative Art Space since 1977 (Mousse, 2024), Echoes. Origini e rimandi dell'art rock britannico (Fondazione Luigi Rovati, 2025), and AVEC – Seamless. Art, Visuality, and Electronic Culture in the Post-Pandemic Era (NERO, 2025).
Spampinato serves as the academic lead for the University of Bologna on the innovative, interdisciplinary and international educational projects “Micro-Credential in Sustainability” and “Virtual Exchange for Sustainability,” developed under UNA Europa and funded by the European Commission.
