Associate Professor

Department of Pharmacy and Biotechnology

Academic discipline: CHIM/03 General and Inorganic Chemistry

Curriculum vitae

Francesco Musiani is Accociate Professo in General and Inorganic Chemistry. His research is carried out in bioinorganic, bioorganic, biological chemistry, and in chemistry of metals in the biological systems.

The research he carried out is basic science applied to the chemical and biophysical processes occurring in the environmental and human biosphere. The main goal is the modelling of the molecular structure of proteins and enzymes, in order to elucidate the structure-function relationships, the reciprocal influence of the metal ions and the protein matrix, and the interaction modes of the protein with substrates, inhibitors, and other biological substrates such as proteins and nucleic acids.

These goals are pursued using a wide spectrum of computational methods and biomolecular structural modeling. Among the used techniques there are: molecular dynamics, homology modelling, docking and quantum mechanics methods.
