Curriculum vitae

Associate Professor at the University of Bologna since 2023, he conducts his research in the field of genome editing for the treatment of genetic diseases. His research interests primarily revolve around developing new strategies to correct DNA mutations responsible for skeletal muscle and cardiac muscle pathologies.

Education

He graduated in Industrial Biotechnologies from the University of Padova in 2007 and earned his Ph.D. in Genetics and Molecular Biology of Development in 2011.

Academic career

Following his post-doctoral experience at the Department of Biology at the University of Padova, he held positions as an Assistant Instructor and later an Instructor at the Department of Molecular Biology at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, USA, from 2018 to 2022. He returned to Italy at the University of Padova through the prestigious European Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowship. As of October 2, 2023, he holds the position of Associate Professor in the disciplinary field of BIO/18 (Genetics) at the University of Bologna.

Teaching activities

Starting in 2023, he has been actively involved in teaching, serving as a professor for various courses in Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs. Currently, he teaches General Genetics for the Bachelor’s degree program in Biotechnology at the University of Bologna and Human Genomics with Biostatistics for the Master’s degree program in Health Biology at the same institution. Since 2023, he has also been teaching “Basics of CRISPR-Cas Genome Editing” and “Advances in Genome Editing” for the Doctoral School in Biosciences at the University of Padova. Additionally, he organizes and coordinates seminars to delve deeper into his areas of expertise.

Scientific activities

He has authored scientific articles published in prestigious international journals, including Molecular Therapy, Science Advances, PNAS, Nature Medicine, and Science.

Institutional Activities and Academic Roles.

Starting in January 2024, he serves as a member of the Research Committee of the Department of Pharmacy and Biotechnology at the University of Bologna.

Membership in Scientific and Editorial Committees

Since 2023, he has been a member of the American Society of Gene & Cell Therapy, and since 2022, he has held membership in the RNA Society. Furthermore, he serves as a referee for international journals in the fields of Genetics, Molecular Biology, and Muscle Pathology.
