Thesis Proposal on the Valorization of Agricultural Residues for bioenergy production

Title: Biogas and Sustainability: Seasonal Monitoring of Biomass for Defining the Optimal Energy feedstock-mixture

Location: DISTAL (Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences) and AUB (Experimental Farm of the Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna)

Activity Description: This thesis project involves the monthly monitoring of biomass resources available at the Experimental Farm of the Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna (AUB), which will serve as the reference case study. The biomasses will be analyzed both individually and in different combinations, with the aim of evaluating biogas production potential and identifying possible synergies among various substrates. Particular attention will be given to the role of seasonality, in order to assess how temporal variability affects the availability and characteristics of organic matrices. The expected outcome is the identification of the most efficient biomass mix capable of maximizing biogas production in the selected farm context, providing at the same time a replicable model for similar agricultural settings.
