Research Activities

2015-now

Researcher (RTD-A) at DEI, University of Bologna, Italy.

2013-2014

I was post-doctoral fellow at the Institute of Communications and Navigation in Oberpfaffenhofen (Germany) of the DLR (German Aerospace Center), thanks to a DAAD research grant with the title “Channel Coding for Free-Space Optical Links”.

2010 - 2012
I am working as research fellow at IEIIT-CNR, in the field of  high capacity digital multi-carrier wireless systems under the scientific revision of Prof. Oreste Andrisano.

2007 - 2010
Within my PhD I have studied different aspects of communication systems for broadband wireless multimedia transmission: partial equalization in multicarrier CDMA systems, out-of band mitigation in OFDM systems with nonlinearities and echo cancellation in on-channel DVB-T repeaters.

2006 – 2010
Within the project "DVB 2006" of the Almamater Ltd.  Foundation (in cooperation with Metasystem SpA industry) I participated in the design and implementation of an echo canceller for repeaters used for the spread of digital terrestrial television.

2008
As part of the foreign experience included in my PhD, I worked for six months at the DoCoMo Eurolabs in Monaco of Bavaria, under the supervision of Dr. Ivan Cosovic, dealing with algorithms for the reduction of out of band emission in OFDM systems in the presence of non-linearities.

May - December 2004
Collaborator at CNR (the National Research Council of Italy) - IEIIT (Institute of Electronics, Information and Telecommunications Engineering) - University of Bologna, working in the field of wireless communication techniques.

September 2003 - February 2004
Preparation of master thesis working at the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department of University of California San Diego (UCSD), San Diego, USA, thanks to a student grant supplied by the Engineering Faculty Chairmanship, in the context of the scientific co-operations among the Department of Electronics, Computer Sciences and Systems (DEIS) of the University of Bologna and the Center for Wireless Communications (UCSD). I performed my research under the supervision of  Prof. Larry B. Milstein and of  dott.Ing. Matteo Sabattini. The work consisted of an analytical study of Ultra-wide band wireless systems with multiple antennas based on adaptive beam-forming for suppression of narrow band interference. The research results has formed the analytical basis for a publication on the subject.

Teaching Experience

In the Academic Years 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 I was teaching assistant (TA) for the course of  “Comunicazioni Elettriche” held by Prof. Gianni Pasolini at the University of Bologna (Italy) .

In the Academic Years  2009/2010 and 2010/2011 I was also teaching assistant of prof. Oreste Andrisano for the courses of “Sistemi di Telecomunicazione M” (Italian language) and of  “Communication Systems: Theory and Measurements M” (English language).

In the Academic Years 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 I held the course of “Sviluppo del software / Software Development M” at the University of Bologna (Italian and English language mixed class).
