Political parties, populism, and the radical right

I study the transformation of political parties, with particular attention to the rise of new populist and radical-right parties. My research has focused especially on the Five Star Movement and Brothers of Italy, examining their organisation, political culture, leadership, communication, and electoral bases.

Political elites and representation

I examine the composition, careers, and behaviour of political elites, as well as their role in processes of democratic representation. This research includes studies of parliamentary elites, territorial representation, and changes in the political class.

Digital politics and participation

I have studied the relationship between digital technologies, party organisation, and political participation primarily through the case of the Five Star Movement. My research has focused on participatory platforms, online decision-making, and the tensions between grassroots participation, leadership, and organisational control.

Misperceptions, information disorder, and polarisation

My most recent research examines factual misperceptions among political and journalistic elites. In particular, I study the relationship between media exposure, political orientation, and misperceptions, and how these dynamics contribute to polarisation among political and media actors.
