Filippo Del Lucchese

I am an Associate Professor of Political Philosophy at the University of Bologna, and a Senior Research Associate at the University of Johannesburg. My research interests are in the early modern period, the history of political thought and Marxism. I have been a Marie Curie fellow and hold degrees from the universities of Pisa and Paris IV (Sorbonne). I am the author of Conflict, Power and Multitude in Machiavelli and Spinoza (2009), The Political Philosophy of Niccolò Machiavelli (2015), Monstrosity and Philosophy: Radical Otherness in Greek and Latin Culture (2019), and Constituent Power in Early Modern Philosophy: from La Boetie to Hobbes (Edinburgh University Press, 2025). I have taught in France, Lebanon, the United States, and the United Kingdom. I am currently working on two projects: ‘Monstrosity in Modern Philosophy’ and ‘Political Conflict, Memory and Sites of Violence.’

He is currently Delegate to Internationalisation of the Department of Philosophy, University of Bologna.
