Curriculum vitae

Full Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Bologna, he carries out his research activities mainly in the field of clinical pharmacology and personalization of medical therapy, with particular reference to the optimization of antimicrobial therapy in patients with severe infections.


He graduated in Medicine and Surgery with full marks and honors from the University of Padua (1989) and specialized in Clinical Pharmacology with full marks and honors at the same University (1993).

Academic career

After having carried out contract teaching at the University of Udine for many years, in 2018 he became Associate Professor at the same University. In October 2020 he became Full Professor at the Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences of the University of Bologna

Assistance activity

He is the head of the SSD SSD Clinical Pharmacology- Dept. for Integrated Infectious Risk Management - University Hospital IRCCS Policlinico Sant'Orsola, Bologna, Italy

Teaching activity

Since 1997 he has been continuously teaching Pharmacology teaching in the degree courses of the Health Area.

Scientific activity

He has participated and participates in national and international research programs. He is the author of over 240 publications in international journals subjected to peer-review and registered on the ISI Journal Citation reports with an H-index of 38 and 6472 citations (Scopus consulted on 14/12/2022).

He is Section Editor of the Journal of Global Antimicrobial Resistance and member of the International Editorial Board of Clinical Pharmacokinetics, Pharmaceutics and Antibiotics.

He is a referee for numerous international journals in the field of clinical pharmacology and antimicrobial chemotherapy.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Society of Anti-Infectious Therapy (SITA),

Institutional activities and academic positions

From November 2019 to October 2020 he was Director of the School of Specialization in Infectious Diseases of the University of Udine.
