Born in Bologna on 14th September 1972. Family status: married.

Since 2002 he is affiliated to the Department of Industrial Chemistry “Toso Montanari”.

The disciplinary – scientific sector he belongs is Chim/12 (Chemistry for the Environmental and for Cultural Heritage).

From 20th September 2021 he works as a Full Professor at the Department of Industrial Chemistry "Toso Montanari", University of Bologna.

From 15th September 2014 to 19th September 2021 Associate Professor at the Department of Industrial Chemistry "Toso Montanari", University of Bologna.

From 11/6/2018 to 10/6/2021 Director of the Interdepartmental Center for Industrial Research “Renewable Resources, Environment, Sea and Energy” (formerly “Energy & Environment”) of the University of Bologna.

From 10/9/2013 to 9/5/2018, Vice-Director of the Interdepartmental Center for Industrial Research “Energy & Environment” of the University of Bologna, started in the framework of ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) 2007-2013 with Emilia Romagna Region, for the implementation of regional technopoles.

From 15/9/2010 to 9/9/2013, coordinator of the Working Unit “Industrial Ecodesign, waste recovery and product life cycle” of the same I.C.I.R.

From 2019 to 2021, Vice-President of the Environmental and Cultural Heritage Chemistry Division of Italian Chemical Society, of which he was President in the triennium 2013-2015.

Member of the Technical-Scientific Committee of “Ecomondo. The Green Technology Expo”

Within the Department of Industrial Chemistry “Toso Montanari” is presently:

• Member of the Scientific Council of the Professional Master Programme “Composite Materials”

• Director of the School of Higher Education “Ecological Transition” of the University of Bologna, promoted by Italian Exhibition Group. First edition: 26 novembre 2021 - 4 febbraio 2022. Second edition: 20 gennaio - 22 marzo 2023

• Teacher responsible for Erasmus exchanges with University Rey Juan Carlos (Spain)

He graduated with a first class honours degree in Industrial Chemistry from the University of Bologna in 1996; from 1996 to 1999 he worked at the University “Ca’ Foscari” of Venice and got a PhD in Chemistry in 2000. Qualified to practise as member of Chemical professional Association.

The scientific activity proceeded within the Department of Industrial Chemistry and Material, in the Faculty of Industrial Chemistry, with 2 collaboration contracts and a post-doc position, regarding the definition of procedures for an integrated environmental monitoring.

From 1st October 2002 (confirmed in 2005) to 14th September 2014 he has been Assistant Professor in Environmental and Cultural Heritage Chemistry at the Faculty of Industrial Chemistry of the University of Bologna (Rimini Campus).

Since the Academic Year 2002/03 he has been teaching different classes at the University of Bologna: “Environmental Chemistry”, “Environmental Monitoring”, “Chemistry and Control of Pollutants”, “Environmental Certification and LCA”, "Environmental Technologies and Certification", "Waste Management", "Environmental sustainability assessment in waste prevention and treatments", “Environmental Impact, LCA and Urban Mining”.

These courses have been assigned in the 1st Level Degree Courses in “Industrial Chemistry” (Bologna Branch), “Chemistry of Materials and Ceramic Technologies” (Ravenna Branch), “Chemical Technologies for the Environment and Waste Management” (Rimini Branch), in the 2nd Level Degree Courses in “Products, Materials and Processes of the Industrial Chemistry”, "Industrial Chemistry", “Low Carbon Technologies and Sustainable Chemistry” (Bologna Branch), "Resource Economics and Sustainable Development" (Rimini Branch), in the MSc degree (Erasmus Mundus) “CHIR: CHemical Innovation and Regulation” and in the 1st Level Master of “Environmental Technologies and Certification” Programme.

He was the director, together with prof. Luciano Morselli, of 2 International Summer Schools: 1) “Innovative Technologies and Environmental Impacts in Waste Management”, 12 - 17 giugno 2006, Rimini; 2) “WASTE RECOVERY: Recycling and Waste to Energy”, 25-30 giugno 2007, Rimini.

He was the project coordinator of an “Erasmus Intensive Programme” financed by EU in the framework of the “Lifelong Learning Programme” educational projects, entitled: “Strategies, Applications and Methodologies of WAste REcovery”, involving students and teachers of 7 European Universities: Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna; University of Modena and Reggio Emilia; Braunschweig Institute of Technology (Germany); Rey Juan Carlos University (Spain); Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium); Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration (Austria); University “Dunarea de Jos” of Galati (Romania). First edition: 2th October – 7th November 2008. Second edition: 19-30 October 2009.

From 07/07/2017 to 30/06/2018 appointed as Expert for European Commission Joint Research Center. Topic of the research: Development of Raw Material System Analysis Studies for Aluminium (Al), Copper (Cu), and Iron (Fe) for the EU-28. This research produced the Technical Report: “Material Flow Analysis of Aluminium, Copper and Iron in the EU-29”, https://publications.jrc.ec.europa.eu/repository/bitstream/JRC111643/jrc111643_mfa_final_report_june2018.pdf ).

Since 2006 he is a member of the Executive of Environmental and Cultural Heritage Chemistry Division of Italian Chemical Society. He is also member of SETAC (Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry) and of ACS (American Chemical Society).

He is referee of national projects for the Ministry of University and Research.

Referee of about 30 international journals in the field of environmental chemistry and engineering.

Qualified to practice as a member of Chemical and Physical Professional Association, Register of Emilia Romagna Region.

Member of the Editorial Board della rivista “Energies – MDPI”, Section “Energy and Environment”.

Member of the Editorial Board of “Frontiers in Environmental Informatics and Remote Sensing”
