The activity of the research group has focused toward the problem of visualization tools and enjoyment of digital 3D models, and information associated with them, analyzing different scenarios related to the fields of architecture, archeology and industrial design, so as to take into account different dimensional areas, from the object to the city, the car to the furnishings inside. The issue has basically two aspects: - The tools to see models - The technologies for visualizing the models.
The recent emergence of a generation of tools for developing advanced interactive visualization applications open, in fact, the opportunity to explore new directions for research, using the versatility, intrinsic to the virtual models, consisting in incorporating broad range of attributes, offering as sophisticated prototypes, allowing you to observe, simulate and analyze the values of the project

The objective to be achieved in the development of research is to study the role played, and what you can take on the graphical representation in processes of preliminary assessment of the changes generated by the interventions of urban renewal and the manner in which the content, values, critical are synthesized, expressed and communicated. In this context, the potential offered by information technologies represent a unique opportunity in terms of communication effectiveness, clarity of expression and their ability to synthesize the various components of the process in order to prefigure, in a rigorous and scientific, the scope and feasibility the project proposal.
The main objective of the research will be:  A. The design and development of interfaces that allow an effective interaction with them and through them with the descriptive data of digital models and those associated with them in the logic of a multidimensional information system, although simplified, in wich are simultaneously present information geometric, textual, visual, or all documents typically available to the architect and / or industrial designer, who currently require independent and different methods of use.  The research will focus on the development of interaction between computer and user merging the classical approach. The study of the interaction between man and computer is now commonly regarded as a real discipline that includes, besides the study, planning and evaluation device with which you interact with your computer, even one of the interfaces, which are closely related to many other disciplines such as computer science, psychology, sociology and ergonomics. It is thus evident the complexity of a problem whose study is approached from two different points of view, that related to human communication theory, graphics and perception of symbols and icons, design tools, the approach to psychological and of the machine, which affects more closely and then computing operating systems, languages, codes and development environments. In this research, however, means addressing the problem from another, different point of view, that the designer and scholar who seek tools with which to think, explore, plan, present to form a whole fully integrated and easy to use even by part of those professionals, extremely capable and competent, but not trained in the use of specific advanced technologies.  This system will need to pay attention to the interaction that has its key components in the interface and user-input device.  B. The implementation of display systems in real-time high-level icon for the display of archaeological artefacts. In this case, research is part of the multidisciplinary field of computer graphics aimed at creating render in real time for display that has found convincing answers in the field of commercial display of objects. The main focus is to create a digital representation of a 3D model from measured data so that it becomes virtually indistinguishable from a reality, real or hypothetical, which is supposed to represent. The process that allows for image synthesis perceptually indistinguishable from reality represented, presents a number of issues in the calculation methods to be used by the computer system to achieve this goal. In particular, from the standpoint of theory and practice, is not yet possible to describe accurately the process of synthesis achieved by the optical system-human perception (in terms of physical and emotional feelings) to which the models mathematically represented in the various software with a degree of reliability compared to becoming the real challenge of current research field.
The themes of the research are:  A. explore the possibility, not yet fully exploited its technological architecture of display devices shady real-time, triggering an interaction easy and natural for designers to allow them a direct use of digital models with all the advantages inherent to them.  B. explore ways to obtain display of models made of millions of polygons shaded with global illumination algorithms in real-time capable of photo realistic illuminate outdoor areas.
