CURRICULUM (short)

Francesco Basile is Italian representative in the shadow thematic configuration Climate Energy and Mobility (Cluster 5) of Horizon Europe and is country reprenssentative in the transitional partnership forum of Horizon Europe in charge of defining the proposal for the strategic coordination process of the partnership in HEU.

He is Associated Professor at the Industrial chemistry department of University of Bologna since October 2014. Has achieved the National Academic Qualification (ASN) as full professor (sector 03 C2) Coordinator of the international Master degree “Low carbon technology and sustainable chemistry”.

He graduated with 110/110 in 1995 with Prof F. Trifirò, has obtained his PhD at the University of Bologna with a thesis on “Innovative processes for natural gas activation” under the coordination of Prof A. Vaccari (2000). During the PhD has spent 4 months at the ECPM of Strasbourg. Since 2003 was researcher at the Dipartimento di Chimica Industriale e dei Materiali.

He is coauthor of 80 publications in international journals present in the main data base (SCOPUS). He has contributed has editor and author to 10 books and 1 encyclopedia. He has given oral presentations in the most important congresses of catalysis ( 4 natural gas conversion symposium NGCS and in the last 3 international congress on catalysis ICC (Granada 2000, Paris 2004, South Korea 2008). He has given invited lecture on Hydrogen production in the ICS Unido Workshop on Biomass and at several Universities in Europe and South America. The industrial relevance of the research activity is clear from the several commercial research activity committed by Snamprogetti, Air Liquide, Radici Chimica etc.. The technological relevance of the research is confirmed by the 10 patent obtained on catalyst and catalytic processes. HE is also author of one book and several book chapter with international editors

WORK EXPERIENCE IN HIGHER EDUCATION:

Francesco Basile is the president of the international LM course in “low carbon technology and sustainable chemistry”. He has 12 years of experience as teacher and course responsible in university of Bologna (two courses, 14 or more ECTS/year). He worked as supervisor of 6 PhD thesis, 10 Master thesis and more than 30 graduated student thesis. He was also in charge of a Distance learning course for PhD student in “catalysis for biomasses” and have given several lecture and seminar for PhD student.

He was fellow of UNIDO in 2009-2010 and UNIDO-ICS focal point in 2010-2012 working as national expert of biofuel.

Management Experience:

He has been elected member of several board and in particular: ICEA 2012-2016 (acting as vicepresident between 2015-2016); Fairtrade Italia 2010-2017. AISBL COSMOS (2016-2017).

SUPERVISION OF PHD STUDENTS DURING LAST 5 YEARS

Supervisor of 8 PhD student in the last five years.

CURRENT and RECENT TEACHING EXPERIENCE:

He has experienced more than 230 ECTS of teaching activity in the field of industrial chemistry.

He is teacher of “Chimica Industriale”, “Green technology and sustainable industrial chemistry” and “Processi sostenibili per la chimica e per l’energia” at the Dipartimento di Chimica Industriale.

He is the coordinator of the international Master degree “Low carbon technology and sustainable chemistry.

He was scientific director of the european summerschool “Fuel from Biomass”, held between August 28th - September 2nd, 2006 at the University of Bologna and of the Summerschool /training course “Second generation biofuels and beyond” held between September 14th-18th 2009 at the University of Bologna and organised in collaboration with the ICS Unido training program.

RECENT PARTICIPATION IN INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH PROJECTS

Francesco Basile has large experience in EU and national projects. Limiting the list to the project with coordination roles. He was one of the 6 member of the technical committee (TECCOM) of the Integrated project (IP) “clean hydrogen reach synthesis gas” CHRISGAS (approved as flagship project in FP Vi, 2004-2011). He has the role of coordinating the activities and the WP’s dealing with catalysis. The project, with 21 partners, is aimed at the production of hydrogen reach gas from biomass gasification based on the modification of Värnamo plant (Sweden). Since January 2008 he is responsible for the University of Bologna of the Greensyngas a VII FP collaborative project for the production of a clean syngas from biomass gasification based on the Güssing plant (Austria) (FP7 2008-2012). Finally, as part of the INSTM consortium the Dipartimento di Chimica Industriale, under the coordination of Francesco Basile is a local coordinator in the “Next GTL”, a large collaborative project of the VII framework program (FP7 2009-2013). He is the coordinator of the project Pure hydrogen for the first market (POR UE regional funds 2013-2105) and coordinator of the POR FESR 2016-2018 “integration of thermochemical process and catalytic reforming on residues biomass: valorization of products towards a zero waste approach”. He has contributed to the “FIRST to RUN” horizon 2020, (JU BBI 2016-2019) flagship project.
