Scientific interests regard the study of chemical and structural
aspects of calcium phosphates inorganic crystals and biological
macromolecules involved in biomineralization, and their structural
relationships.
Preparation of innovative composite materials according to the
following research:
- synthesis and characterization of nano- and micro-crystalline
inorganic phases through novel biomimetic processes;
- study of structural and morphological modifications of calcium
phosphates due to the interaction with bioactive ions and
molecules;
- oriented growth of inorganic phases on polymeric and metallic
matrices;
- design and implementation of innovative biomaterials for
orthopedics.
Main techniques are X-rays diffraction techniques, scanning
and transmission electron microscopy (SEM, TEM), spectroscopic and
thermo-analytical techniques.
